Introduction
I feel like a slice of this cake would work at any time of day. Hot out of the oven, it’d also do nicely as pudding on an autumnal evening, with a bowl of crème fraîche on the side.
Ingredients
apples, cored and finely sliced | |

softened unsalted butter | |
soft light brown sugar | |
free-range eggs | |
self-raising flour | |
baking powder | |
ground allspice | |

demerara sugar (use soft light brown sugar if you don’t already have or won’t regularly use demerara) | |
