Introduction
I feel like a slice of this cake would work at any time of day. Hot out of the oven, it’d also do nicely as pudding on an autumnal evening, with a bowl of crème fraîche on the side.
Ingredients

| softened unsalted butter | |
| soft light brown sugar | |
| free-range eggs | |
| self-raising flour | |
| baking powder | |
| ground allspice | |
| ground cinnamon | |
| For the crumble topping: | |
| demerara sugar (use soft light brown sugar if you don’t already have or won’t regularly use demerara) | |
| softened unsalted butter | |
| plain flour | |
