Air Fryer Spicy Soy and Garlic Chicken Bites
Make these crispy chicken bites in the air fryer for an easy fakeaway dinner or snack. Delicious served with lettuce wraps or roast potatoes.
Introduction
This is my healthy air-fryer version of classic Chinese takeaway chicken. The result is so versatile: the bites make great party food or you can simply snack on them when you’re feeling peckish.
Ingredients
| For the chicken | |
|---|---|
| 1kg (2Ib 4oz) | skinless, boneless chicken breasts or thighs |
| salt | |
| For the marinade | |
| 1 tbsp | dark soy sauce |
| 1 tbsp | oyster sauce |
| 1 tbsp | Thai sweet chilli sauce |
| 1 tbsp | distilled white wine vinegar |
| 1 tbsp | minced garlic |
| 1 tsp | coarsely ground black pepper |
| 1 tsp | chilli (red pepper) flakes |
| 1 tsp | paprika |
| ½ tsp | Chinese salt (MSG) |
| 1 tbsp | lemon juice |
| 2 tbsp | olive oil |
| Serving suggestions | |
| lettuce wraps, mayo, roast potatoes |
Method
Prep: 10 minutes. Marinate: 1 hour. Cook: 20 minutes.
Using a sharp knife, cut the chicken into 3cm (1¼-inch) cubes.
Combine all the marinade ingredients in a large bowl and season with a little salt. Add the chicken pieces, turning to coat them thoroughly. Cover the bowl, then transfer the chicken to the fridge to marinate for 1 hour.
Place the marinated chicken in the air-fryer tray or basket. Air-fry
at 180°C (350°F) for 15-20 minutes, shaking halfway through, until
they are cooked and lightly charred all over.
Serve the chicken in a large bowl with lettuce leaves for wrapping,
if you like, or with mayo for dunking. Oven-roasted potatoes make it a complete meal, if you’re feeling hungry.
