Who is the author? Founder and CEO of The Athenian, Tim Vasilakis was born in Athens and grew up surrounded by Greek food. In 2013, he was living in London and had fallen in love with the city’s vibrant street food scene but had noticed a gap in the market for authentic Greek food. The following year The Athenian was born from a market stall in north London, serving some of the best gyros outside of Athens to queues of hungry Londoners. Since then, The Athenian has gone from strength to strength, operating from multiple sites across London and beyond as one of the most popular Greek restaurants in the UK.

What’s it about? With over 60 delicious Greek recipes to try, The Athenian: Eat Like a Greek will transport you to the bustling streets of Athens. You’ll find plenty of familiar favourites from The Athenian’s menu, from gyros to the famous Greek yoghurt dip and souvlaki sauce, as well as all manner of other classic Greek dishes including Greek frittata, roast lamb, meatball soup, and courgette fritters. There are also plenty of vegetarian options and vegan versions of crowd favourites (think vegan seitan gyros and vegan moussaka). From quick meals and delicious snacks to comforting family favourites and crowd-pleasing feasts, this cookbook is packed with authentic and accessible recipes for everyday cooking.

Recipes we love: Chicken Gyros, Halloumi Souvlaki, and Apple Filo Pie.

Perfect for: Anyone who loves Greek recipes, from street food to classic recipes, and wants to learn to recreate them at home.
