What’s it about? Bringing the spirit of London’s much-loved Tamila restaurants into the home kitchen, Tamila is the debut cookbook from chef Elavarasan ‘Prince’ Durairaj. Drawing on his South Indian heritage and the British-Indian curry house tradition, Prince shares over 75 recipes that put a fresh spin on familiar dishes, from richly spiced curries and sizzling grills to dosas, breads and chutneys.

With chapters dedicated to Dosa, Thali, Curries, Grills, Breads, Chutneys, Feasts, Desserts and Drinks, there’s plenty to explore, whether you’re looking to expand your repertoire of Indian dishes or recreate the experience of dining at Tamila. Expect recipes such as fragrant Lime Leaf Roasted Chicken and creamy Paneer Butter Masala, alongside everything you need to assemble a traditional thali feast at home.

More than a collection of restaurant favourites, Tamila is a celebration of the food and culinary traditions that have shaped Prince’s cooking. Rooted in the flavours of Southern India but open to new influences, these recipes invite home cooks to discover the versatility and richness of Tamil-inspired cuisine.

Who’s the author? Elavarasan ‘Prince’ Durairaj is the chef-owner behind London’s Tamila restaurant group, which includes The Tamil Prince, The Tamil Crown and Tamila. Born and raised in Thanjavur, South India, Prince brings his Tamil heritage together with influences from Britain’s Indian curry houses to create a distinctive style of cooking.

His restaurant journey began at Hackney Bridge Food Hall in 2021, before expanding into a collection of popular London dining destinations. With Tamila, Prince shares the dishes and culinary influences behind his restaurants in his first cookbook.

Recipes we love: Lime Leaf Roasted Chicken and Paneer Butter Masala.

Perfect for: Fans of London’s Tamila restaurants, adventurous home cooks and anyone looking to explore South Indian cooking through inventive curries, grills and celebratory feasts.
