Limiting our trips to the shop means that we all need to make the most of what's in our fridge and cupboards. We've been turning to Jamie's genius 5-Ingredient cookbook. It's packed with dinners that take less than 30 minutes and that use only five ingredients, showing that it's more than possible to stretch our food to its full flavoursome and nutritious potential.
Jamie also shares his favourite condiments and staples that are great to have in the house to add last minute flavour to our meals. Work through these 7 dinners this week.
5 Ingredients: minced lamb // rose harissa // red cabbage // wholemeal tortillas or flatbreads // cottage cheese
Ready in 15 minutes, Jamie uses rose harissa to turn minced lamb into deliciously spiced grilled kebabs. Stuffed into flatbreads with a quick cabbage slaw and a dollop of cottage cheese. Easy, quick and incredibly tasty. Alongside rose harissa, read more here on our favourite pantry staples that add bombs of last-minute flavour to your meals.
5 Ingredients: trofie or fusilli // garlic // mixed mushrooms // Parmesan cheese // half-fat crème fraîche
Crème fraîche makes anything taste good, especially when it comes to pasta and garlicky mushrooms. Try to find a variety of mushrooms to keep this interesting.
5 Ingredients: undyed smoked haddock // spring onions // baby spinach // Cheddar cheese // filo pastry
This is possibly the simplest and quickest fish pie ever made – simply cook spinach and spring onions in a pan, add smoked fish, grate over cheese and layer the filo on top. Thrown in the oven for 15 minutes, it's easy as pie!
5 Ingredients: chicken thighs // fine rice noodles // sugar snap peas // Worcestershire sauce // chilli jam
Jamie is a master at getting as much flavour out of a couple of chicken thighs, stripping off the skin and crisping it up alongside stir-frying tender meat with a jammy umami sauce and tossed through noodles. Sugar snaps are great here but you could use any greens that you have in the fridge.
5 Ingredients: all-butter puff pastry // skinless chicken breasts // green pesto // cherry vine tomatoes // green beans
Traybake pesto chicken with a crisp pastry crust with roasted, sweet cherry tomatoes and a side of greens, this is a simple dinner made even easier with Jamie's top trick of pounding the chicken breasts until thin and quick to cook.
5 Ingredients: baby beets // clementines // fresh tarragon // crumbly goat's cheese // shelled unsalted walnut halves
Earthy beets, bright citrus, aniseedy tarragon, salty creamy cheese and crunchy nuts, this salad ticks all the boxes. Jamie makes the most of clementines here, using the juice to make a dressing as well as slicing it up to add delicious contrast to your beets. This will brighten up a rainy day.
5 ingredients: artichoke hearts in oil // mixed-colour courgettes // fresh mint // flat white fish // fresh chillies
A one-pan dinner of minty vegetables and crisp white fish, topped with a vibrant chilli herb salsa to bring it all to life.
