Who’s the author? Elly Wentworth, executive chef at iconic Dartmouth restaurant The Angel, MasterChef 2016 finalist, and South West representative on the BBC’s Great British Menu in 2022, has been cooking since she was 13. She was the winner of South West Chef of the Year 2014 and has won numerous awards for The Angel since she joined as head chef in 2018.
What’s it about? The Angel in Dartmouth has a long history of excellence; its fine-dining kitchen has a reputation for cooking the best of seasonal ingredients to the very highest standards and has produced a succession of illustrious chefs including Joyce Molyneux, the ground-breaking Michelin-starred chef of the Hole of the Wall in Bath and The Carved Angel.
With this cookbook, Elly is following in Joyce’s footsteps, championing local, fresh, seasonal and sustainable ingredients; like Joyce, she and her team work in an open kitchen so that diners can enjoy the full experience that The Angel has to offer. Recipes include canapés, starters, amuse bouches, main courses, pre-desserts, desserts, and petits fours, all using the best Devonshire produce.
More than just a collection of recipes, The Angel also includes a history of the restaurant and its famed chefs.
Recipes we love: Free Dived Scallops with Cucumber Butter and Pickled Mustard Seed, Cod Brandade with Malt Vinegar Jam, Devonshire Lamb Loin with Brown Butter Artichokes and Sauce Picante, Roasted Coffee Parfait, and Mascarpone and White Chocolate Granita.
Perfect for: Fans of MasterChef and Great British Menu, as well as anyone with a deep love of exquisite food and local, seasonal produce, particularly from Devon. The is a beautiful book to give as a gift, particularly for admirers of Joyce Molyneux and The Angel.
