Ottolenghi COMFORT: 5 things we can reveal so far

by Rachel Deeley

published on 31 January 2024

Ottolenghi fans, rejoice: 2024 will see the release of a brand-new cookbook from the acclaimed chef, restaurateur, and bestselling author.

Ottolenghi COMFORT promises to be a must-have addition to our kitchen bookshelves when it comes out on 5th September – and if you’re anything like us, you’re keen to find out everything there is to know and look forward to over the seven-month wait. To whet your appetite in the meantime, here are the key details:

Pre-order now

Yotam Ottolenghi, Helen Goh, Tara Wigley, Verena Lochmuller

1. COMFORT comprises over 100 mouth-watering recipes, including Caramelised Onion Orecchiette with Hazelnuts & Crispy Sage, Cheesy Bread Soup with Savoy Cabbage & Cavolo Nero, and Garlicky Aligot Potato with Leeks & Thyme.

2. This is not your average comfort food cookbook. As we’ve come to expect from Ottolenghi’s work, COMFORT offers an elevated take on a simple concept. Forget stodgy pasta and potatoes; the dishes in this cookbook are not only inventive and packed with flavour, but also celebrate food as something that evokes nostalgia, forges connections, and reminds us of our home and family.

3. Ottolenghi is known for his dishes that have a complexity and depth of flavour, but that doesn’t mean you can’t recreate them yourself. The recipes in COMFORT are accessible and easy to follow, so there’s no need to feel intimidated. If you loved Ottolenghi SIMPLE, this is the cookbook for you.

4. Ottolenghi wrote COMFORT alongside Helen Goh, who much like Ottolenghi himself, started out as a pastry chef, Verena Lochmuller, Head of Product Development at the Ottolenghi Test Kitchen who is a passionate believer that a good pastry recipe is a secret weapon in every kitchen, and Tara Wigley, co-author Ottolenghi SIMPLE and Falastin, who switched publishing for food and writing back in 2010 and has been working with Ottolenghi since 2011.

5. More than just a collection of stunning recipes and photography, COMFORT is a deeply personal cookbook, featuring the authors’ own reflections and anecdotes from childhood, travels, and recipes passed down from family, generation to generation
