Introduction from Denise Smart

This gooey bread-and-butter pudding is so easy to make. You can vary it by using a flavoured dark chocolate, such as ginger or chilli, or you could try milk chocolate instead.

Ingredients

1 slice white bread, crusts removed
softened butter, for spreading
6 pieces of dark chocolate, roughly chopped
1 egg
2 tbsp caster sugar
grated rind of 1 orange
100ml milk

Essential kit

You will need: a 1000W, category-E microwave.

Method

Spread the bread with the butter, then cut it into squares. Arrange in the bottom of a 300 ml microwaveable coffee cup. Add the chocolate pieces, nestling them among the pieces of bread.

In a small bowl or jug, whisk together the egg, sugar, orange zest and milk, until the sugar has dissolved. Pour this over the bread mixture.

Microwave on high for about 1 minute 50 seconds, or until just set. Allow to stand for 1 minute before serving.
