The Vegetarian Gift Guide from Amuse Your Bouche

by Lottie Huckle

published on 1 December 2016

Wondering what your favourite vegetarian wants for Christmas? We’ve enlisted the expertise of Becca, the writer behind the well-loved vegetarian blog, Amuse Your Bouche, to give us the ultimate vegetarian gift guide. Keep this one bookmarked for birthdays, too!

Vegetarian Gift Guide 2016

1. A spiralizer

A spiralizer is a great gift for any veggie-lover who likes to eat healthily, especially if their new year’s resolution is to cut down on the carbs. It’s perfect for making noodles from courgettes, squashes, carrots, and all sorts of other veggies.

2. A mini food processor

A mini chopper is such a versatile kitchen tool, and one that will undoubtedly be used again and again. Use it to chop nuts, whizz up small batches of pesto or salsa, make breadcrumbs, and plenty of other things!

3. The World of the Happy Pear

Written by twins Stephen and David Flynn, this book is stuffed full of vibrant, colourful vegetarian recipes. With stories about the people and friendships behind the book, and advice about how to stay healthy and stress less, it will leave you feeling great inside and out.

4. Fresh herb pots

Fresh herbs can instantly lift a dish from good to great, so they’re a must in any passionate cook’s kitchen. There are kits available to help you grow your herbs from seeds, but I don’t think there’s any shame in caring for a pre-grown plant!

5. A great set of knives

Although we veggies may not have any tough meat to chop up, a great set of knives is still hugely important – have you ever tried to cut through a tomato’s skin with a really blunt knife? Not only are good quality, sharp knives easier to use, they’re much safer too.

6. A salad spinner

No, vegetarians don’t eat salads for every meal. Yes, we do eat them sometimes! A salad spinner is a quick and easy way to ensure all your leafy greens are dried thoroughly – nobody likes soggy lettuce!

7. Fresh India

Meera Sodha’s latest book contains 130 easy vegetarian recipes inspired by her Gujarati family, ranging from simple samosas to complex curries. If you’re new to Indian cooking, this book is a brilliant, unintimidating way to get started – the large, bright photos are incredibly hard to resist.

8. A tofu press

If your vegetarian eats a lot of tofu, they’ve probably lusted after a good tofu press for a long time. The simple clamp mechanism squeezes out any excess water, helping to make your tofu firm and crispy. Much easier than stacking up heavy cookbooks and pans!

9. A Nutribullet

Any kind of blender is really useful for making soups and smoothies at home – but the Nutribullet is especially useful for whizzing up single serving smoothies which you can drink straight out of the blender cup. An ideal gift for a health-conscious veggie!

10. A Tefal Actifry

The Actifry is one of my favourite kitchen gadgets. It cooks all sorts of things using just one small spoonful of oil – including the best chips in the world! Its plastic arm rotates during cooking, ensuring that the potato slices are cooked evenly. Who wouldn’t want perfectly crispy chips with barely any effort?

11. The New Vegetarian

This recipes in this beautiful cookbook by Alice Hart are colourful and nourishing, and allow their natural ingredients to really shine. If you’re intrigued by raw food, whole grains and healthy proteins, this is the book for you.

12. A vegetarian magazine subscription

In case three stunning vegetarian cookbooks aren’t enough inspiration, a year’s magazine subscription is always a great idea for a gift. There are lots of great veggie magazines to choose from. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!
